PARADE INFORMATION..............
From Tom Kittinger

Here is the information you will need to get you through Saturday, June 30th and Wednesday, July 4th.  We're ALL hoping to have GREAT turnouts for ALL of these final parades of the summer.

Saturday, June 30th we will be in the beautiful community of Havre de Grace, MD for a 2:00pm parade.  If you are riding the bus (cost is $8), it will be leaving the Legion in Hanover at 11:00am Saturday morning.  Be there in time to load your equipment, pay for your seat and be ready to leave by 11:00am.  If you are driving, or car-pooling to Havre de Grace, here are your directions:

From 695 East (B-more Beltway), take I-95 N to Exit 89 (Havre de Grace)..........this is Rt 155.............go toward Havre de Grace and stay on this road until it dead-ends..................DO NOT FOLLOW SIGNS TO RT. 40.............at dead-end, turn right onto Juniata Street..........proceed through the traffic light, go under the railroad bridge and you will see Havre de Grace H.S. on your left..................parade officials will direct you to the area the Lancers will be forming..............parade forms at 1:00pm and NO PARKING IS PERMITTED ON JUNIATA ST.

Saturday is to be an absolute gorgeous day, so plan on joining us for this 1-mile long parade................there are usually thousands of spectators for this parade, and it is a wonderful way to keep our beloved "Posie's" memory alive!!  See you there!

On Wednesday, July 4th, we will be marching in Dundalk & Towson during the morning hours.  The Dundalk Parade begins at 8:30am and the Towson parade at 10:30am.  The bus will be leaving the Legion in Hanover promptly at 6:30am, Wednesday morning.  Again, for those of you driving to these parades, here is the information you will need:

Baltimore Beltway, I-695 to Exit 39, Merritt Blvd.............proceed on Merritt (through numerous lights) until it meets Sollers Point Rd (this is almost a "Y" intersection).............turn left onto Sollers Point Rd to Dundalk Ave.......
Turn right onto Dundalk Ave and go approx 7-blocks to the Logan Shopping Ctr on your right................park there.  If you are driving, you need to be in the parking lot by 8:00am

From Dundalk, take I-695 toward Towson.........take the Dulaney Valley Rd Exit into Towson...............follow past the Mall and go around circle............
Dulaney Rd turns into York Rd.............after crossing Towson Blvd, the American Legion Post is Ont he right at 125 York Rd.............park in the rear and move up the steps to the beginning of the parade route............we are to be in position by 10:45am, if at all possible.................this is never easy, depending on how many times we have to stop and start in Dundalk, so don't delay leaving there, so you're in Towson on time.  Food and drink is always offered at the Legion, following the parade.

WE WILL BE IN SUMMER UNIFORM FOR ALL OF THESE PARADES, AND THE MUSICAL LINE-UP WILL INCLUDE: "STAR WARS," "STARS AND STRIPES," "BATTLE HYMN," AND "NEVER WALK."

That should be ALL the information you need to get you through these parades.   PLEASE DO THE BEST YOU CAN IN GETTING TO THESE PARADES, AND FINISHING OUR "SUMMER" SEASON ON A HIGH-NOTE!!!

Thanks!!

Thank You, Wyndham
From Bob Zarfoss

Lancer Corps Members and Friends,

I can't begin to tell you how proud I was of the Lancers' performance at the Wyndham on Saturday. The corps made a very positive impression on the AF guys, and the comments that I remember were these: "That's the best I ever heard the Lancers' horn line," and "the drum line was really clean." The corps sounded very, very good, and following the Originals as you did, an excellent performance was required. Everyone was up to the task. That those who attended had a chance to see the American Originals first hand was a plus, and surely a motivator, especially for the drums. I already have been working on the latest version of the Duck, one that will succeed whatever version w haven't learned yet! We'll need some drum practices; I'll be checking with you for some dates in July, either for the Legion or here.

Getting back to the program the Lancers used, the order was superb, attention grabbing with Georgia on My Mind, appropriate with martial and patriotic music like Stars and Stripes. The National Anthem was superb, and it gave us a chance to salute the flag. The hymn Abide with Me led us to the invocation, and with both corps present, that act took on special meaning. I hope my words introducing "You'll Never Walk Alone provided just the right touch to bring both corps together in remembering our departed corps members.

I'd like to call your attention to a portion of a letter which was sent to non attending AF Corps members, and to some AF Band members who didn't attend as well. The author was not a corps member, but rather the gentleman who was the announcer for the AF Band; it was he who read my little speech about the corps while we marched on the track in Gettysburg. Here's a portion of his letter:

******************

"Two things of special interest. First, the music presented was amazing. Two groups performed on Saturday evening at the banquet (the third of three) -- the American Originals Fife & Drum Crops from Northern Virginia and the Lancers Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps from the Hanover, PA area.

As you know, drum and bugle corps folks consistently take care of their own, and that is one of the strengths of the movement. As opposed to the jumping through hoops for months routine which I had to go through (plus a temper tantrum E-mail on my part) to get the Singing Sergeants to appear at the AFMA Banquet last August in Rosslyn (an exercise in frustration and futility which 1. I never want to go through again and 2. will never forget), the two musical units not only wanted to appear for the USAF Drum & Bugle Corps, they considered it an honor to be asked and both appeared without fee or expenses.

NOTE: In the Drum & Bugle Corps world, the USAF unit is on a pedestal shared with no others. For example, did you know that there are more USAF Drum & Bugle Corps alumni in the D&B Hall of Fame than any other single corps!

Anyway, in the case of the American Originals (and if you have never seen/heard them they are absolutely first class and down right stunning in their performance), they wanted to honor their drum line founder, John Bosworth. And the Lancers were there to honor their drum line instructor for the past seven or so years, Bob Zarfoss (the real driving force behind these wonderful get togethers). Both units drove to Gettysburg on their own and both performances were thrilling."

***************

Wonderful words that speak to the pride we have as an organization.

I'd like to reward every Lancer who attended the AF show at Gettysburg Wyndham by giving each of you one of the AF CDs which we gave to each AF Corps member. The CD, a double set, is unique in that it contains some performances by the Corps from the 50s and 60s that were never made public before. It's my way of saying thank you and well done, and my way of saying that I cherish each of you and what you do for the Lancers, and for me.

Lest those who weren't there feel left out, I'll gladly sell you a CD for the same price I charge the AF guys who didn't attend; $10. I will work with Tom and the rest of the group to try to ascertain a way to distribute these CDs. I must order more from Philadelphia, I believe, if my numbers are correct for the Lancers who attended.

Thank you again. We must keep getting better.

THANKS!!!

Thanks to ALL who performed at the square in G-burg yesterday afternoon, and also for those able to make it to the Wyndham for that performance as well.  We had a GREAT turnout of horns and drums for the square concert and we thank Ron Bunty, and the other members of the Honor Guard that made it to the performances. (sorry, I couldn't see who else was there)  We also had a GREAT, and appreciative crowd of onlookers at the square, and I'm sure at the Wyndham.  (I apologize for not being able to make that concert, but my "kids" made reservations at Mayuki's in Frederick for 6:30 last evening to celebrate Father's Day, so I couldn't very well turn that down!)

Here's the deal.........................THE REHEARSAL SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 24th HAS BEEN CANCELLED!!  According to a survey taken yesterday, there were very few members that were planning on attending that rehearsal, and the horn line really doesn't have anything additional at this point to be working on.  We have a very busy end of June and beginning of July, so it was decided to give you next Sunday off in hopes that YOU would make every effort to attend our FINAL GIGS OF THE SUMMER!!

We will be in Havre de Grace on Saturday, June 30th for a 2:00pm parade.  The following Wednesday, July 4th, we will be in Dundalk/Towson for 8:30am and 10:30am parades.  Saturday, July 14th, we will be presenting the National Anthem at the York Revolution baseball game at 7:00pm.  Once the game is over, we will have completed our Spring and Summer performances and have nothing else on the books at present time until October.  WITH THAT IN MIND, WE WOULD ASK THAT YOU MAKE EVERY POSSIBLE EFFORT TO JOIN US FOR AS MANY OF THESE PERFORMANCES AS POSSIBLE!!!  YOUR participation is vital in making sure we present the corps in a very professional and musically sound manner.  Both Havre de Grace and Towson are very short parades, and Dundalk is early enough that the heat is not usually stifling yet.  Lincoln Bus Lines will be providing us transportation to Havre de Grace AND Dundalk/Towson for $8.00 per person. (Bill Reese will be collecting your money)  I believe the departure time for Havre de Grace is 11:30am and for Dundalk/Towson, 6:30am.  (if there is any change in that, or if the times are incorrect, I will let everyone know)  I'm sure Jason Resh will have directions on the corps' web site for anyone wishing to drive to these events.  I will also be sending you directions as the time draws closer.

One other item of importance you need to remember........................ALL MEMBERS OF THE CORPS THAT ARE ATTENDING THE YORK REVOLUTION GAME MUST HAVE A TICKET!!!  The cost is $7.00 to us and those we are taking with us, but you must get your ticket(s) from Bill Reese.  He will have the tickets with him at all three of the upcoming parades, but YOU must get with Bill to make sure you have the ticket(s) you need.  We have 150 of them that have to be sold prior to the 14th of July, so please don't wait.  If you are writing a check, please make it payable to "Hanover Lancers."  This will be a sold-out game, so, again, it is important that we present ourselves well.  This is a wonderful recruiting tool for the corps.

Once again, thanks to all that participated in our events yesterday, and I'll look forward to seeing MANY OF YOU in Havre de Grace on June 30th.  ENJOY YOUR BREAK NEXT SUNDAY!!!
